Not saying it's going to happen, but.
So, uh, regarding my last post:

If you were going to read slashfic of March Upcountry (&sequels), whom would you want slashed?

This post brought to you by the not-quite-dreams I had a few nights ago while trying to fall asleep, featuring kinky, consensual-but-with-emphasised-persuasion, Julian/Roger/Despreaux... and a really luxurious Imperial bedroom. :D

    Query:
It is a moral imperative to slash a novel (co)written by John Ringo, yes/yes?

Except that would involve his showing up on my "fandoms" list on AO3, and I'm not sure I'm willing to be that intrinsically linked with Ringo. *ponders* I mean, I'm not even that intrinsically linked to a lot of authors I like and respect!

On the other hand, I could tag it with "take that john ringo's id" and "i reject your worldview and substitute my own"...

    the AO3 fic meme
Via what seems like half my reading list, I give you: my top ten three stories according to their hits on the AO3 Archive. Shortened to three because I only have 7 works up anyway, and four of them are sonnets in an old, old fandom, which means they never get hits. :D

want to post, but have nothing to post about
I wish I had something worth posting about! Alas, unless you're dying to hear about my Adventures In Sleeping In or griping about my gigantic To Be Read bookpile, I don't have much to post about. (Well, I have been inhaling HP fic again, so maybe I'll find something I haven't already recced...)

    Feeling thwarted
I feel rather hollow lately when it comes to fandom -- not having a Big Exciting Active Fandom has left me floundering about in a combination of disappointment (when I get excited and want to be active in something, there's no fandom) and frustration (all the things my flist is getting active and excited about don't interest me, or I don't have access to them). I have all this pent-up fannish energy, but nowhere to direct it.

Anyone want to direct me to where the Sooper Sekkrit Fangathering for my bookish obsessions might be hiding? Or join with me in an effort to kick Loveless- or Eroica-fandom back into action?

Or take a stab at inducting me into a shiny new fandom?

    Meta Meme: topic by Skuf
    Her prompt:
Has Fandom changed since you joined it? Do you have the same feelings about Fandom now as then?

Wow, all right, I think the real answer to this -- after meditating on it for a day and a half -- is: my fandom experience has shifted so much that I can't possibly compare then and now in a relevant way.

Three Points on my Fannish Timeline, For Reference )

To me, my fandom experience(s) have been so disparate from fandom to fandom that I don't really think of them as a progression, where change might be observed and attributed to Fandom rather than to quirks of a particular fandom. For one, I seem to zigzag across the book/film and anime/Western animation lines quite a lot, making it very hard to tell cultural differences from progressive changes; Gundam Wing and TPM weren't all that far apart in my personal timeline, but the "culture" of each fandom was quite different, which I attribute more to the community (and perhaps the greater connexion and the medium than to evolution of fandom itself.

I feel pretty lucky about the breadth of my fandom experience! I have been to a SF/F con, an anime con, and HP midnight book releases (in costume); I have met fandom friends ranging from teenagers to grandmothers; I have a basic comprehension of a number of fannish cultures, from the mainstream (HP, Star Wars) to the obscure (Lois Bujold, Eroica) to the obscure-within-the-mainstream (HP/SS in Harry Potter). I know how to read a manga page and where to find fic for a tiny novel-based fandom. I can compare slash and yaoi, have friends in both camps, and enjoy both styles, as well as where they overlap.

Now, post-HP, I'm in that odd limbo of "looking for a fandom," which is interesting and aggravating. (I got entangled in Loveless for a while, but the author's lack of updates means the fandom is evaporating.) I worry that I'll never find another huge and thriving and engrossing fandom like HP; and I'm not sure what will happen then. Can I go back to small, disorganised fandoms? Can I manage without a steady stream of fic to rec? If so, I clearly can't be "a reccer" -- so what will I become? Will I ever be more than a lurker again, even if being an unknown reccer is only a slight step up? :D

    Meta Meme: topic by tadashi_chan
    Her prompt:
Since I know you like Loveless, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the subject of Ritsuka and Soubi's relationship. It doesn't have to be exclusively about the 'romantic' aspect, per se, just the relationship in general (which kinda goes hand-in-hand with romance, I suppose).

Three (and a half) Paragraphs, As Promised )

So, tadashi_chan, how was that? (Aside from long!) If you still want something narrowed down, feel free to ask! I could go on forever about these two; they have so many facets and interlocking (and conflicting) angles. :D

    Meme for meta
    Stolen from rainmage:

Give me a topic, preferably a fannish topic that I would be likely to have something to say about, and I will attempt to write you a few paragraphs of meta on what I think about the subject.

    File Name Meme
Stolen from resonant8 and viva_gloria: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.

Don't look to me for funny or intriguing results -- I keep all or nearly all my story attempts for a given fandom in a single document, which is pretty undescriptively named for the fandom. So the answer to this meme is as follows:

    Dragaerafic
    FMAficstart
    BlackJewels
    lovelessfic
    lovelessroughoutline
    HPfic
    Severus
    SOLDIERfic
    realmsfic
    potcficstart
    temerairefic
    Valdemarfic

That's pretty much everything that's been prodded in the last six months.

Lord of the Rings fangirl time
You know what? I have never had so strong a reaction to someone disrobing on screen as the one I have at the bit in Two Towers, where Aragorn at Helm's Deep is arming before the battle, still believing he's going to die with the Rohirrim on the walls. I just... Uhnf. I don't even have words. It makes me simultaneously want to pull on my own armour and pick up blade and join the hopeless defence as a comrade in arms, and kiss him like Arwen doesn't even exist, right there on the cavern floor with the remains of the Fellowship watching.

    First Post of 2011!
I had to think of something positive to post about, because what I first wanted to post was a crotchety-old-fangirl complaint about MPreg... but even through my crotchetiness I could recognise that that's not how I want to start off a new year.

I will also refrain from discussion of how a Pottersues thread just made me seriously question my positions on parental authority and What Children Read. (That will take more thinking-over.)

    So! Positive things!

I am still trying to get through all the things I bookmarked from Yuletide, so my fic cup runneth over. :D

In RL I am frantically busy trying to wrap up a thousand things, so I haven't had much time for fannishness, but I'm more-than-halfway resolved that this year I will up the number of Fics I Have Written to a nice, even 10. Staring at that ugly "7" on my AO3 dashboard is just unpleasant. *makes face* I spend way too much time staring at my AO3 page. Way back when I was a bitty, isolated fan just discovering fic, I never dreamt that I would actually write any! Much less that I would write a Yuletide fic and get comments! I now understand other writers's love of comments more than I used to, though I think (hope) I'm still not quite as obsessive as some get...

Actually, I think I'm pretty unlikely to get out of hand, given I haven't even posted about the Yuletide fic I wrote. :D I meant to! *sheepish* If you're interested, go here and then go read -- that first link is almost the entirety of the canon, so it's not hard to get into. (However, there's lots more amazing stuff by this fabulous artist, and I tried to incorporate some of it in the fic but even if I failed you should check her out!)

Let's see, can I think of anything else?

Nope, I think that's it for this post. :D

    iPod question
I don't suppose any of you very clever people would know how to make my iPod get along with iTunes after changing (Windows XP) computers?

Online browsing has been generally unhelpful to me, because everything assumes that I still have access to the old computer! This is not the case; it contracted a sudden case of Videocard Failure several months ago and is not usable (even if it weren't approximately 1,000 miles away).

    Thanks ever so!

Awesome dream. (This post NSFW: warning for very-alien smut)
I have spent all day suffering vague anxiety/eagerness to get back into the book I was reading last night! It's been haunting me all day with random flashes of excitement at the building romantic tension and mental giggling over the great banter between the characters.

This cut is NSFW due to images of, erm, Sci-Fi Pr0nz. )

    Yuletide?
So... I'm seriously thinking of signing up for Yuletide this year. I've been yearning for some kind of writing challenge that appeals to me (my vanity, let me show you it: I go and stare at my AO3 page and wince at the tiny list of "fandoms" at the top), and 1,000 words does not feel insurmountable.

It also seems like it might be a handy way to combat AND feed my recent cravings for fandoms-so-small-they're dead. (While all of you guys are off raving about "Sherlock" and "White Collar" or whatever's on telly these days, I keep haunting the Interwebz for more Dragaera or Foreigner fanfic, with little to show for my diligence...)

Anyone out there want to talk me out of it? Or pat me reassuringly? (I'm just a teensy bit doubtful of my own abilities, especially as regards "coming up with a plot" and "including all the required characters". Just a tad.)
